The Weir Rose Bowl began in the 1950s as a competition for U-12 boys. Tom Weir, who was a member of the Junior Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association, donated the Weir Rose Bowl trophy that bears his name. After the formation of the Federations in 2000 and over the following years the Weir Rose Bowl evolved into a format where each federation identified and selected their best U-12 players, male and female, from their respective programmes. Hosting of the Weir Rose Bowl was shared on a rotational basis between the 3 Federations until 2012 when it was decided that WaiBOP would host the event annually utilising the facilities at St Peters School, Cambridge.
